Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the corrosion of the stern tube sleeve at a site reliably by covering the sleeve by using jointly a seawater corrosion resistant coating material (e.g., tar epoxy coating material) and a nonwoven fabric of water-resistant synthetic resin fiber. CONSTITUTION: After removing oxides, foreign matter and the like from the surface of the stern tube sleeve and filling a compound material 3 into recesses formed on the surface by already occurred piting corrosion, the tar epoxy coating material 2 having resistance to seawater corrosion is coated on the metal 1 constituting the sleeve and the coated film is left to cure naturally. Then, the nonwoven fabric 4 of Vinylon, polyester or the like having a thickness of about 0.05W0.1mm and a porosity of about 50W80% is wound around the cured coated film in 1W3 piles, and the tar epoxy coating material 2 is applied on the fabric 4 and is impregnated sufficiently into the fabric 4, and the coating material 2 is cured to coat the metal 1.
